 It is a unique opportunity to demystify the idea people have about the chakras, learn to relate to them and use sadhana to grow through them.

The course will be led by Yogacharya Dr. K. Ashutosh (MBBS, PGDY, NDDY, Ph.D (Yoga)), a disciple of Swami Krishnananda, Divine Life Society, Sivananda Ashram, Rishikesh. He will be assisted by Yogacharya Ms. Kadambari, former World Champion Artistic Yoga.

Through the practices of asana, pranayama and different meditation practices this course will familiarize you with practical applications of the chakras and the role they take in our physical, psychological, mental and spiritual expressions. This course will delve into yogic theory and practices to purify and awaken the chakras. You will begin by developing Chakra awareness and then gradually move into the chakra awakening and purification.

The literal meaning of the word chakra is ‘wheel or circle’, but in the yogic context a better translation of the Sanskrit word is ‘vortex or whirlpool’. The chakras are vortices of psychic energy and they are visualized and experienced as circular movements of energy at particular rates of vibration.

For each person there are myriads of chakras, but in the practices of tantra and yoga, only a few principal ones are utilized. These chakras span the full spectrum of man’s being from the gross to the subtle.

There are eight chakras in the human body which are directly connected with the higher unillumined centers of the brain. The first chakra is mooladhara. It is situated in the pelvic floor and corresponds to the coccygeal plexus of nerves. In the masculine body it lies between the urinary and excretory openings, in the form of a small dormant gland termed the perineal body. In the feminine body it is situated inside the posterior surface of the cervix.

Mooladhara is the first chakra in the spiritual evolution of man. It is also the last chakra in the completion of animal evolution. From mooladhara chakra upwards lie the chakras which are concerned with illumination and evolution of the higher man or superman. Mooladhara chakra has control over the entire range of excretory and sexual functions in man.

The second chakra is swadhisthana, located at the lowest point or termination of the spinal cord. It corresponds to the sacral plexus of nerves and controls the unconscious in man.

The third chakra is manipura, situated in the spinal column exactly at the level of the navel. It corresponds to the solar plexus and controls the entire processes of digestion, addimilation and temperature regulation in the body.

The fourth chakra is anahata, and it lies in the vertebral column behind the base of the heart, at the level of the depression in the sternum. It corresponds to the cardiac plexus of nerves, and controls the functions of the heart, the lungs, the diaphragm and other organs in this region of the body.

The fifth chakra is vishuddhi, which lies at the level of the throat pit in the vertebral column. This chakra corresponds to the cervial plexus of nerves and controls the thyroid complex and also some systems of articulation, the upper palate and the epiglottis.
Ajna, the sixth and most important chakra, corresponds to the pituitary gland, lying in the midlime of the brain dirctly behind the middle of eyebrows. Tantra maintains that ajna chakra has complete control over all the functions of the body.

There are also two higher centers in the brain which are commonly refered to in kundalini yoga : bindu and sahasrara.

Bindu is located at the back of ajna chakra, where the Hindu brahmins symbolically keep a tuft of hair. This is the point where oneness first divides itself into many. This chakra corresponds to the pineal gland.

Sahasrara is supreme; it is the final culmination of kundalini shakti, the seat of higher awareness. Sahasrara is physically corelated to the hypothalamus gland which controls each and every gland and system of the body.

Location

This teacher training will take place amidst pollution free (sound and air), far from the maddening crowd, in a serene surroundings in the periphery of Mysore, Karnataka, India. Nestled in nature, indulging in experiential Yoga in the Ashram, is truly a dream come true. Abundant greenery, water bodies, a busy streamlet gurgling through, and melody of flowing water for about eight months in a year are available less than half an hour’s drive from the suburban and city bus stands, the railway station, or the airport. It is a very rare prospect in today’s rapidly expanding metropolises. You are both in the city and out of it.

Code Of Conduct

  1. Mauna (Silence) : Minimal communication by speech or gestures in the Yogashala, Dining area or Dormitory.
  2. Mitahara (Yogic Vegetarian Dietstyle) : Eatables from outside are not allowed except fruits or coconut water or medication.
  3. Kshetra Sanyaas (staying at one place) : The participants are encouraged not to go outside the ashram premises during the entire duration of the course unless mandatory.
  4. Pratyahara : The use of Electronic devices viz. Mobile phones and laptops are restricted to 2 hrs a day ; reading books and listening to music is not encouraged in the Ashram. The journey inwards can not be accomplished without adequately blocking the external stimuli.
  5. The students are expected to follow the principle of adjust (physically) , adapt (mentally) and accommodate (emotionally).
  6. The students are expected to respect the religion , race , age , gender and limitations of the fellow participants .
  7. Guests from outside are not allowed during the course .
  8. Indulging in Amorous activities , Smoking , Drugs or Alcohol is not permitted in the Ashram .
  9. The students are expected to refrain from performing their own rituals (e.g. chanting loudly or doing worship) in the Dormitory at the cost of privacy of fellow participants.
  10. ‘ Cultural differences are nothing but a programming of the innocent Self by the insecure Self ‘…. the participants are encouraged to Transcend it.
  11. Please do not disturb the mother nature & it’s Co inhabitants between 8 pm and 5 am . They too have a right to stroll around unrestricted or rest undisturbed.
  12. Acceptance of the Teachers and the Techniques : Please surrender yourself unconditionally to the Techniques being taught during the course and the Teachers to benefit the maximum from this course.
  13. All other techniques must be totally suspended so as to experience the effects and efficacy of this course.
  14. Dress code : clothing should be modest in the class or outside the classroom keeping the back , thighs and chest appropriately covered. Transparent clothes are not permissible in the Ashram.
  15. The personal problems or doubts regarding the course should be discussed during specified hours with the facilitators only.
  16. The students should take care not to enter the Dormitory of fellow participants at odd hours.
  17. It is the responsibility of the participants to apprise the management about any medical problem which ensues during the stay in the Ashram or which the student is already suffering from.
  18. Questions/Quest answered : It is always good that the students respect the time constraints during lecture or otherwise. To ensure this the students are advised to refrain from putting personal questions during the lectures. Also , to encourage introspection we implore the inquisitive minds to always exercise patience whenever a question props up in their minds , invest 24 hrs to sincerely look for the answer within or around….and only then , if imperative , ask the question in person. Doubtlessly , the course modules are for each and every participant but in the yogashala , remember, the course is ‘Not for You only’ .
  19. This course is Not to prove that the Teachers know all the answers but to share with you the Techniques which can help you develop the ‘incisive selective passive awareness’ needed to find all the answers ‘within or around.’
  20. Time management : During the course ‘Punctuality’ is of utmost importance . It is given respectable weightage during final assessment of the students.

Please Note :

  • Only those participants who feel that they can diligently follow the code of conduct should register for the course .
  • The students who are not prepared to make a sincere effort will not only waste their time and energy but also be a cause of distraction for the fellow participants.
  • The students should take care not to create such conditions which force the administration to ask them leave the ashram unceremoniously .
  • The true aspirants are advised to have patience to reap the benefits and not to leave the course halfway owing to the tough discipline .
  • Patience is the quality most needed when it is exhausted .
  • Endurance pays .
