Where To Find Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Online: 7 Top Ways

You have felt what Yoga Nidra does in your own practice, and now you want to guide others through it. That raises a practical question: where to find Yoga Nidra teacher training online, and how do you know a course is worth your time and money?

There are many options. Some are self-paced video courses. Others are live Zoom trainings, lineage certifications, or residential intensives with some online study. They differ in hours, depth, teacher contact and cost. Some courses hand you a script to read. Others teach you to build your own sessions.

This guide covers where these trainings are listed, which programs are well known in 2026, and how to check a course before you enroll. It also answers the questions people ask most often: how to get certified, whether you need a qualification, how long a class runs, and whether you can earn from teaching online. We also compare online and in-person training, including our own residential program in South Goa.

Quick Answer

You can find Yoga Nidra teacher training online through lineage institutes (such as iRest Institute and the Yoga Nidra Network), established yoga schools (such as Arhanta Yoga and Yoga Medicine), and the Yoga Alliance YACEP directory. Compare format (live or self-paced), total hours, lineage, teaching practice with feedback, and trainer credentials before enrolling.

Want daily practice and in-person feedback instead? See how we teach Yoga Nidra in our 300-hour yoga teacher training in Goa.

Key Takeaways

  • Online Yoga Nidra teacher training is offered by lineage institutes, established yoga schools, Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Providers (YACEPs) and IAYT-approved providers.
  • The published online courses we checked in September 2026 ranged from 20 to 50 hours, in live, self-paced or mixed formats.
  • Supervised teaching practice with feedback matters more than the number of hours.
  • A Yoga Nidra certificate shows you completed a training. It is not a license to treat health conditions, and a yoga teacher is not a yoga therapist.
  • Research suggests Yoga Nidra may help with stress and sleep, but most studies are low in quality, so the evidence is still preliminary.
  • Inteyoga teaches Yoga Nidra within a residential 300-hour program in South Goa. It does not run a standalone online Yoga Nidra course.

What Is Yoga Nidra Teacher Training?

Yoga Nidra teacher training is a course that teaches you to guide others through Yoga Nidra, a structured practice of guided deep relaxation often called “yogic sleep.” It covers the stages of the practice, where it comes from, the voice and pacing needed to lead it, and how to adapt it safely for different groups.

Yoga Nidra is different from a general relaxation track or a sleep app. It follows a set sequence of stages, which we walk through in the section on how to teach a Yoga Nidra class.

Most trainings work on three things at once. You keep up a regular practice of your own, so you know the states you will guide people into.

You study the history, the philosophy, how Nidra differs from meditation and hypnosis, and what current research says. And you learn to teach: structure, voice, pacing, script writing, class setup, and what to do when a student has a difficult experience.

The teaching part is where courses differ most. Some end with you reading a fixed script. Others have you teach, get feedback, and write your own sessions.

Is Yoga Nidra A Tantric Practice?

Yoga Nidra has tantric roots, but the modern practice is not a tantric ritual. Its best-known feature, the rotation of awareness through the body, is linked to nyasa, a tantric practice in which mantras were placed, felt or visualized at different parts of the body.

Swami Satyananda Saraswati of the Bihar School of Yoga shaped the modern form. In his version, students name each body part instead of placing a mantra there, which made the technique simpler to follow.

The Bihar School’s own Yoga Magazine states that he adapted the practice and presented it systematically in the 1960s. His book Yoga Nidra, first published in 1976, is still the main primary source for this method.

The history is not fully settled. Satyananda himself named nyasa practices as an inspiration. Other writers point out that similar body-scanning methods already existed in both Eastern and Western traditions, including Vipassana.

The scholar Mark Singleton has also questioned how much Satyananda drew on Western relaxation therapy compared with Indian sources. It is fair to say the modern method has tantric roots and was shaped by several influences.

Secular versions also exist. Researchers have adapted Yoga Nidra by removing its religious or mystical elements, and examples include iRest and Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR).

You can learn and teach Yoga Nidra in a traditional yogic setting or a secular one. At Inteyoga, we teach it in the classical Hatha tradition as one of the internal practices of Antarang Yoga.

How To Start Practicing Yoga Nidra?

To start practicing Yoga Nidra, lie down in a quiet space, follow a guided session from a trained teacher, and practice at the same time most days. A 20 to 30 minute session is a practical place to begin.

  1. Pick a time. Choose a time when you will not be disturbed. Many people practice in the afternoon or before bed.
  2. Set up comfortably. Lie in shavasana on a mat or bed. Your teacher may suggest legs up the wall, a neck pillow, or a bolster under your knees. A light blanket helps, because you may feel cooler as you relax.
  3. Use a guided session. Beginners need a voice to follow. Choose a recording or a live class led by a trained teacher.
  4. Stay aware. The aim is to rest while staying awake. If you keep falling asleep, finish the practice and try a shorter session next time.
  5. Keep a simple sankalpa. This is a short, positive resolve you repeat at the start and end of each session. Keep the same one for several weeks.
  6. Practice regularly. Short, regular practice is easier to keep up than long, occasional sessions.

Your own practice matters even more if you plan to teach. Every serious training expects it.

How Long Is A Yoga Nidra Class?

Most Yoga Nidra classes last 20 to 40 minutes, though some teachers run sessions of up to an hour. Class length depends on the teacher, the setting and the group.

Longer is not always better. Scott Moore, who teaches Yoga Nidra and trains teachers, finds that about 30 minutes works best. He suggests keeping the whole practice under 35 minutes, 45 at most, because students start to feel uncomfortable lying on the floor.

Short sessions are useful too. Research reported by Sleep.com has compared 11-minute sessions with more standard sessions of 20 to 30 minutes.

Session lengthOften used for
10 to 15 minutesDaily home practice, workplace breaks, beginners
20 to 30 minutesMost group classes
35 to 45 minutesWorkshops, retreats, experienced students

Are There Any Online Yoga Nidra Classes Available?

Yes. Many studios and teachers stream live Yoga Nidra classes on Zoom and publish recorded sessions you can follow at home. Yoga Nidra suits online learning, because students only need to lie down and listen.

Online classes come in a few forms. Live classes let a teacher guide the group in real time and often take questions afterwards. Recorded sessions can be repeated whenever you like. Many teacher trainings also include guided practices for their students.

When you choose a class, check the teacher’s own training and use headphones in a quiet room. Never follow a Yoga Nidra recording while driving or doing anything that needs your attention.

Online classes are for your own practice. To guide others, you need teacher training, which the next sections cover.

Where Can I Find A Yoga Nidra Training Course?

You can find a Yoga Nidra training course online through lineage institutes, yoga schools and the Yoga Alliance directory, or in person at traditional yoga schools, residential teacher trainings and lineage workshops. The right place depends on whether you want flexibility or immersion.

In-person options include:

  • Lineage trainings held in person. Some lineages run the same course in person and online. At one iRest host in Encinitas, California, participants choose either in-person attendance or live online attendance on Zoom, and the two cannot be swapped.
  • Independent teacher intensives. One US trainer runs a Level 1 (Fundamentals) course and a Level 2 (Certification) course, and notes that Level 1 alone is not a certification.
  • Residential advanced teacher trainings. Some 300-hour programs, including ours in South Goa, teach Yoga Nidra in depth alongside pranayama and meditation.
  • Local studios. Many studios host weekend Yoga Nidra workshops, which can be a good first step before full training.

For online options, see the next section.

Where To Find Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Online: 7 Places To Look

The most reliable places to find Yoga Nidra teacher training online are lineage institutes, established yoga schools, the Yoga Alliance YACEP directory, the IAYT network, independent senior teachers, education marketplaces, and advanced teacher trainings that include Nidra. Each one suits a different learner.

What Do Lineage Institutes Offer?

Lineage institutes teach one defined method and train teachers in it directly. This is often the most consistent option, because the method and its standards come from one place.

  • iRest Institute. Its Level 1 training covers the principles, history, theory, practice and delivery of iRest, built around the 10-step iRest protocol for personal, teaching or clinical use.
  • Yoga Nidra Network. Its Total Yoga Nidra training is led by co-founders Uma Dinsmore-Tuli PhD and Nirlipta Tuli MA. The Network lists its teacher trainings as Approved Professional Development with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT).

Which Yoga Schools Run Online Yoga Nidra Courses?

Several long-running yoga schools offer Yoga Nidra teacher training online as a specialist course. These suit people who want a school with a wider teacher-training record. Examples include Arhanta Yoga, Yoga Medicine, Sampoorna Yoga and Aura Wellness Center, compared in the next section.

How Does The Yoga Alliance YACEP Directory Help?

If you are already a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), the Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider directory is a practical search tool. YACEPs are E-RYTs approved by Yoga Alliance to offer continuing education, and their courses can be online or in person. Search “Yoga Nidra” in the directory and filter by online.

Why Look At The IAYT Network?

If you work in health care or yoga therapy, look for trainings approved for IAYT professional development. These tend to focus on evidence and on working with specific groups. The Yoga Nidra Network holds this approval for its trainings.

Should You Learn From An Independent Senior Teacher?

An independent teacher can offer a refined personal approach, with less institutional oversight. Check their own training history carefully. Scott Moore’s online course, for example, uses video lectures, PDFs, pranayama and mindfulness practices, and aims to help you create your own scripts in your own voice.

Are Education Marketplaces Worth Checking?

Marketplaces are easy to browse, but always check who actually teaches the course. Gaia’s marketplace, for example, lists an iRest course that it describes as 30 hours of IAYT-approved professional development for Certified Yoga Therapists.

Do Advanced Teacher Trainings Include Yoga Nidra?

Some advanced 300-hour trainings teach Yoga Nidra in depth as part of a wider curriculum. These are usually residential, but some include online study. Our own program works this way: the residential course in Goa includes applied anatomy and physiology through online lectures, alongside advanced pranayama, meditation, Yoga Nidra, Ajapa Japa, Antar Mauna, Chakra Sadhana and Prana Vidya.

Which Online Yoga Nidra Teacher Trainings Are Well Known In 2026?

Well-known options in 2026 include iRest Level 1, the Yoga Nidra Network’s Total Yoga Nidra training, Arhanta Yoga’s 50-hour course, Yoga Medicine’s 20-hour live course and Sampoorna Yoga’s self-paced course. They differ mainly in format, length and lineage.

The details below come from each provider’s official website, checked on 24 September 2026. They are examples, not a complete list, and details change, so confirm on each site before enrolling.

What Is iRest Level 1?

iRest Level 1 is a live, multi-day training in the secular 10-step iRest method. One 2026 session runs from 25 to 30 August 2026, online via Zoom. To earn the certificate, you must take part live, in person or online, and attendance is tracked. It suits people who want a structured method linked to research.

What Is The Total Yoga Nidra Training?

Total Yoga Nidra is the Yoga Nidra Network’s teacher and facilitator training. The Network describes it as an intensive course and retreat, run through its online learning space and global community. It suits teachers who want a broad, inclusive approach with IAYT-approved professional development.

What Does Arhanta Yoga’s 50-Hour Course Include?

Arhanta Yoga’s course is fully self-paced. It has 29 video lessons, 8 quizzes and 24 downloadable resources, with lifetime access and teacher support.

It covers how Nidra differs from meditation, hypnosis and relaxation, how to structure a class, and voice work, with daily guided and teaching practice. It suits people who need a fully flexible schedule.

What Is Yoga Medicine’s Yoga Nidra Training?

Yoga Medicine runs a short, live, evidence-informed course. It is a 20-hour live online training led by Caroline Wybar and Dr. Katja Bartsch, focused on creating your own classes instead of relying on a script.

It has nine weekly two-hour live sessions plus three pre-recorded lectures, and an optional online exam that must be passed within 45 days to receive the certificate.

What Does Sampoorna Yoga’s Online Course Offer?

Sampoorna Yoga’s course is self-paced with regular live contact. You can finish within a year, with weekly live Zoom Q&A sessions, a downloadable manual and an alumni group.

Are There Other Online Options?

Yes, several smaller courses serve specific goals. Aura Wellness Center offers a 30-hour online home study course for people adding Yoga Nidra to their skill set. My Vinyasa Practice offers an online certification focused on writing trauma-informed scripts. Ally Boothroyd’s lifetime-access course is also marketed to therapists and coaches.

No single course is the best one. The right choice depends on what you want to do with the skill.

Which Yoga Nidra Lineage Should You Train In?

Choose a lineage that matches how you want to teach: traditional and spiritual, secular and clinical, or broad and adaptable. Each lineage uses its own stages, language and aims.

Many teachers study more than one. One trainer lists formal training in the Bihar (Satyananda), Himalayan (Swami Rama), iRest, Amrit Method, ParaYoga, Yoga Sadhna and Total Yoga Nidra styles, which gives a useful map of the main approaches.

ApproachGeneral characterTypical setting
Satyananda / BiharClassical sequence with sankalpa, rotation of awareness and visualizationTraditional yoga schools, ashrams
Himalayan traditionMeditative, breath-ledMeditation-focused schools
iRestSecular 10-step protocolClinical, veterans, wellness programs
Amrit MethodLinks Nidra with yoga philosophy and relaxationStudios, retreats
Total Yoga NidraFlexible, adapts the form to the studentCommunity, women’s health, yoga therapy

If you teach in a traditional yoga setting, a classical lineage gives you depth and context. If you work in hospitals, schools or corporate wellness, a secular method may fit better. If you want freedom to adapt, look for training that teaches principles as well as scripts.

Our approach at Inteyoga is classical. Our 300-hour course integrates Satyananda Yoga and Sivananda Yoga with Raja, Mantra, Bhakti and Karma Yoga, and includes Yoga Nidra among the internal practices of Antarang Yoga.

How Can I Become A Certified Yoga Nidra Teacher?

You become a certified Yoga Nidra teacher by completing a teacher training with a school or lineage and meeting its requirements, which usually include attendance, teaching practice and sometimes an exam. The certificate comes from the school or lineage that trains you.

  1. Build your own practice first. Practice regularly for several months so you know the method from the inside.
  2. Choose a lineage. Use the lineage guide above to match the method to where you want to teach.
  3. Pick a course with real teaching practice. Use the checklist in the next section.
  4. Meet the completion requirements. These vary. iRest requires live participation, with attendance tracked. Yoga Medicine’s certificate depends on passing an online exam within 45 days of the final live session.
  5. Understand what your certificate covers. It shows you completed a training. It does not license you to treat health conditions.
  6. Keep learning. If you are a Registered Yoga Teacher, Yoga Alliance’s own RYT guide says you must complete 75 hours of continuing education every three years: 45 hours of teaching and 30 hours of training. A Yoga Nidra course can count toward the training hours if it fits Yoga Alliance’s educational categories. Check the Yoga Alliance continuing education page for current rules.

How Do You Check An Online Yoga Nidra Program Before You Enroll?

Check six things: total hours, live contact, practicum with feedback, trainer background, what the certificate means, and the full cost. Most disappointment comes from skipping one of these.

  1. Hours and what fills them. Ask for a breakdown of video, reading, live sessions and supervised teaching. Fifty hours of passive video is not the same as twenty hours of live practice with feedback.
  2. Live contact. Find out if there is any real-time teaching and whether you can ask questions. Voice and pacing are easier to learn when a trainer hears you teach.
  3. Practicum and feedback. This matters most. A course with no assessed teaching practice gives you knowledge but not teaching skill.
  4. Trainer background. Find out who wrote and teaches the course, which lineage they trained in, and how long they have led Nidra.
  5. What the certificate means. Words like “approved,” “accredited” and “registered” mean different things for different bodies. Ask exactly who grants the recognition.
  6. The full cost. Look for the total price, payment plans, books, exam fees, access limits and refund terms.

Useful questions to email the provider:

  • How many live hours are included, and in which time zone?
  • Will a trainer hear me teach and give feedback?
  • Will I write my own scripts, or only use yours?
  • How do you prepare teachers to handle strong emotional reactions in a session?
  • What happens if I cannot finish in time?

A provider that answers clearly and quickly is usually a good sign.

How Do You Use The Inteyoga Course Scorecard?

Score each course you are considering from 0 to 2 on each line (0 = no, 1 = partly, 2 = yes). A course scoring 9 or more out of 12 is usually worth a closer look.

QuestionCourse ACourse BCourse C
Is the hours breakdown published?

Do You Need A Qualification To Teach Yoga Nidra?

Rules depend on where you live and where you teach, but proper training is strongly advised, and many settings expect it. Studios, wellness centers, insurers and clients usually ask for proof of training.

Lineage names also carry conditions. iRest’s code of conduct applies to anyone who calls themselves an iRest Level 1 or Level 2 Teacher or a Certified iRest Teacher, and following it is required to keep those privileges. Only use a lineage name if you trained in that lineage.

A Yoga Nidra certificate is also not a yoga therapy qualification. IAYT states that its accredited yoga therapy programs run for at least 800 hours over at least two years, and graduates can apply for the C-IAYT credential.

A 200-hour or 300-hour teacher training, or a short Nidra course, does not qualify anyone to treat medical or mental health conditions.

If you are already a health professional, check your own professional body’s rules. Some lineages offer clinical credits: iRest notes that clinical CE credits are available for holders of PSY, RN, LCSW and MFT licenses.

Can I Teach Yoga Without A Certificate?

Whether yoga teaching is regulated depends on the country, but most studios, gyms, insurers and students expect a recognized certificate. Teaching without one limits where you can work and puts more responsibility on you for student safety.

It helps to know what the main credentials are, because they are different systems.

  • Yoga Alliance is a US-based nonprofit that keeps a registry of schools (RYS) and teachers (RYT). Registration is membership in a registry. It is not a government license to teach. Finishing a 200-hour course does not make you an RYT on its own: you must graduate from a Registered Yoga School and then register with Yoga Alliance yourself.
  • The Yoga Certification Board (YCB) was set up by India’s Ministry of AYUSH and describes itself as the only board set up by any government for certification in yoga. It certifies individual yoga professionals at levels such as Yoga Protocol Instructor, Yoga Wellness Instructor and Yoga Teacher & Evaluator.

These systems do different jobs, so one is not a direct replacement for the other. Other countries have their own bodies and rules, so check locally.

A certificate protects your students, because it shows you studied anatomy, safe practice and teaching method. It also protects you, because insurers and employers usually require one. If you are serious about teaching, a 200-hour teacher training is the usual starting point.

How To Teach A Yoga Nidra Class?

To teach a Yoga Nidra class, settle students in shavasana, then guide them through a set sequence: relaxation, sankalpa, rotation of awareness, breath awareness, opposite sensations, visualization, sankalpa again, and a slow return. Speak slowly, pause often, and keep the session to a length your group can rest through comfortably.

What Should You Do Before Class?

  1. Prepare a warm, quiet, dim room with mats, blankets and pillows.
  2. Ask about injuries, pregnancy and any health concerns. Offer side-lying or supported positions where needed.
  3. Explain briefly what will happen, and that students can open their eyes or move at any time.

What Is The Sequence Of A Yoga Nidra Class?

This sequence follows the Satyananda-style stages. Other lineages order and name them differently.

  1. Settling. Guide students into stillness and awareness of sounds, then of the body.
  2. Sankalpa. Invite each student to repeat a short, positive resolve silently.
  3. Rotation of awareness. Name body parts one by one at a steady pace. Students move their attention with your voice.
  4. Breath awareness. Guide attention to the natural breath, often with counting.
  5. Opposite sensations. Invite pairs such as heaviness and lightness, or warmth and coolness.
  6. Visualization. Offer simple images, spoken quickly, or a short guided scene.
  7. Sankalpa again. Students repeat the same resolve.
  8. Return. Bring awareness back to the breath, the body, the room and outside sounds. Allow time before anyone sits up.

How Should You Use Your Voice?

Speak in a clear, steady tone. Pause between instructions, and repeat what you last said. Keep your voice warm and even, and avoid music with lyrics.

What Should You Do After Class?

Let students sit up slowly. Invite comments, but never press anyone to share.

Know the difference between ordinary discomfort and a trauma response. Restlessness, fidgeting, tears or passing emotion are common during deep relaxation.

Signs such as feeling detached or unreal, flashbacks, or panic call for a different response. Guide the student to open their eyes, feel their feet and the floor, and look around the room. Check in privately afterwards, and suggest they speak with a qualified mental health professional if it continues.

How Much Does Online Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Cost, And How Long Does It Take?

The published online courses we checked ran from 20 to 50 hours, and prices vary widely by format and provider. Live lineage trainings often cost more than self-paced home study courses, but check each provider’s current fees.

As one dated example, iRest’s August 2026 online Level 1 training lists an early bird price of US$1,395 and a regular price of US$1,695 (checked 24 September 2026). Self-paced courses are often cheaper, but compare what is included, not just the price.

Time to finish depends on format. Live intensives are done in days. Weekly live courses take two to three months. Self-paced courses can take weeks or up to a year.

Plan for time after the course too. New teachers usually need regular teaching practice before they feel settled.

What Are The Benefits Of Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Online?

The main benefits of Yoga Nidra teacher training online are flexibility, lower total cost, access to specialist teachers worldwide, and the chance to learn at home while you keep working. For many teachers it is the most practical way to add Nidra to their skills.

  1. You keep your job and routine. You can study in the evenings or on weekends without taking weeks off.
  2. Lower overall spend. You pay no flights, visas or accommodation, and online course fees are often lower than residential programs.
  3. Access to specialist lineages. You can learn a method from its source wherever you live.
  4. Repeatable lessons. Recorded lectures let you rewatch the hard parts, which helps with voice work.
  5. Practice in your real setting. You can try teaching friends or your own classes during the course, then bring questions back.
  6. A skill many students can use. Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down, so it can suit people who cannot do strong physical practice.

What Does The Research Say About Yoga Nidra?

Research on Yoga Nidra is growing, but most studies are low in quality, so read the results with caution. Teachers should know this so they describe the practice accurately.

A systematic review and meta-analysis by Ghai and colleagues included 73 studies with 5,201 participants and found benefits for stress, anxiety and depression. The authors warned that low study quality and varied delivery mean these moderate-to-large effects are likely overestimates.

A 2026 review of Yoga Nidra for sleep problems and insomnia found possible benefits but rated the evidence as very low certainty. It also noted that most trials were run in India, which limits how widely the results apply.

For chronic insomnia, Yoga Nidra is not a substitute for medical care. The American College of Physicians recommends cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) as the initial treatment for chronic insomnia disorder in adults.

So Yoga Nidra may help some people relax and may support sleep and stress management, and the early evidence is encouraging. It is not a medical treatment, and a good training teaches you to say so.

Online Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Vs In-Person (Residential) Training

Online training is more flexible and usually costs less. Residential training offers more depth, supervised teaching practice and daily immersion. Many teachers do both over time.

FactorOnline Yoga Nidra teacher trainingIn-person / residential training
ScheduleFlexible, fits around workFixed dates, full time
Length (examples checked)About 20 to 50 hoursOften part of 200 to 300 hour programs
Travel and stayNoneRequired

Group learningOnline communityLiving and practicing with a cohort
Depth of contextUsually Nidra aloneNidra linked with pranayama, meditation and philosophy
DistractionHome life continuesAway from daily routine
CostUsually lowerUsually higher, though models vary

Yoga Nidra is an inner practice. Doing it daily for weeks, with a teacher observing how you guide it, is hard to recreate at home. On the other hand, if you cannot leave work or family, a well-run online course can still teach you a great deal.

Who Should Choose Online, And Who Should Choose Residential?

Choose online if you want to add Nidra to your teaching with little disruption. Choose residential if you want deep, integrated training and can commit several weeks.

Online usually fits people who already teach and want a specialist skill, need to keep working full time, want continuing education hours, have a steady home practice, or want to learn one specific method such as iRest.

Residential usually fits people who want Nidra taught alongside pranayama, meditation and philosophy, want their teaching observed in person, want to deepen their own practice as well as learn to teach, and have already completed a 200-hour training.

Some teachers take a short online course first, teach for a while, then join a residential program to go deeper.

Is 40 Too Old To Become A Yoga Teacher?

No. Forty is not too old to become a yoga teacher. Life experience, patience and maturity can help you connect with students, and there is no general age limit for learning to teach.

Yoga Nidra can suit later starters, because teaching it does not depend on advanced postures. Your voice, presence and understanding matter more.

Age rules, where they exist, vary by school. For our Advanced TTC 300-Hour program, eligible age at application is 18 to 59. Whatever your age, speak with your doctor before an intensive residential course if you have health concerns, and choose a training whose physical demands suit your body.

Can I Get Paid To Teach Yoga Online?

Yes. Teachers earn from live online classes, private sessions, recorded courses and corporate wellness work. Yoga Nidra is well suited to online teaching, because students only need to lie down and listen.

Common ways to earn include live group classes on Zoom, one-to-one sessions, recorded Yoga Nidra sessions or short courses, workplace stress-management sessions, and online workshops.

Some formats tend to pay more than others. One training school’s 2026 guide suggests that studio classes pay the least per hour, that private sessions, workshops and retreats pay more, and that teachers who combine in-person work with online content tend to recover their training costs faster. Treat this as one school’s view, not an industry average.

A few practical points help. Plan around your students’ time zones. Use a decent microphone, because in Yoga Nidra your voice is the class. Check that your insurance covers online teaching. Use only music you have the right to use. Income depends on your audience and effort, so treat online teaching as a business you build over time.

Which Country Is Best For Yoga Teachers?

No single country is best for every yoga teacher. India is a strong choice for training, and the best place to work is usually where you have the right to work and a steady base of students.

For training, India offers depth, tradition and a wide choice of schools. Hatha Yoga and the modern form of Yoga Nidra both developed there, and study often includes philosophy and lifestyle as well as technique.

For teaching, practical questions matter more than a country’s reputation. You need a legal right to work there. In India, for example, official visa guidance says anyone who plans to work in the country should obtain the appropriate visa category, and many countries have similar rules. You also need students who speak your language, fees that cover your living costs, and some form of recognized training.

Online teaching has made location less important. Many teachers train in India, then teach where they live and reach students worldwide online.

Where Does Inteyoga’s Training Fit?

Inteyoga does not run a standalone online Yoga Nidra course. We teach Yoga Nidra in depth within a residential advanced program in South Goa. If you want immersive training instead of an online certificate, this is our offering.

The program is the Advanced TTC 300-Hour Integrated Restorative Yoga (Including Yoga Nidra, Chakra Sadhana, and Prana Vidya Intensive).

New to teacher training? A 200-hour course comes first. Our next 200-hour yoga teacher training in Goa is planned for approximately mid-2027. Dates, pricing and full curriculum are not yet confirmed.

What Mistakes Should You Avoid?

The most common mistakes are choosing on price alone, ignoring time zones, and rushing through courses without teaching in between.

  1. Choosing the cheapest course by default. A low price is fine if the course includes live contact and a practicum. Without those, you may finish unable to teach well.
  2. Not checking time zones. A live course held in US hours can mean late nights in Asia or Europe.
  3. Stacking short courses back to back. Teach between trainings. Each course means more when you bring real teaching questions to it.
  4. Skipping the pre-course reading. Some trainings set required reading. iRest, for example, asks trainees to read Richard Miller’s book on iRest Yoga Nidra and listen to its recordings before the training.
  5. Letting your own practice slip. It is hard to guide a state you rarely experience yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Online Yoga Nidra Teacher Training Legitimate?

Many online Yoga Nidra trainings are legitimate and well run, especially those from established lineages and schools. A course is only as good as its trainers and its teaching practice. Look for published hours, live contact, feedback on your teaching, and clear information about who grants the certificate. Be careful with vague claims or courses with no named trainer.

Do I Need To Be A Yoga Teacher To Take Yoga Nidra Teacher Training?

Many online Yoga Nidra courses accept people without a yoga teaching certificate, including therapists, coaches and committed practitioners. Advanced programs usually ask for prior training. Inteyoga’s residential 300-hour program, for example, requires a completed 200-hour teacher training or an equivalent qualification. Check each provider’s entry rules before you apply.

What Is The Difference Between Yoga Nidra And Meditation?

Meditation is usually practiced sitting up, with the aim of steady attention. Yoga Nidra is practiced lying down and follows a guided sequence of stages. The Bihar School’s Yoga Magazine describes Yoga Nidra as a state in which the body sleeps while the mind stays awake to the instructions, similar to the hypnagogic state between sleep and waking.

Can I Practice Yoga Nidra In Bed?

Yes. Yoga Nidra involves no poses or movement, so it can be done on a mat, on a blanket, or in bed, including when you are trying to fall asleep. If your goal is to stay aware rather than drift off, a mat on the floor usually works better than a bed.

Is Yoga Nidra Safe For Everyone?

Yoga Nidra is gentle and suits most people, but deep relaxation can bring up strong emotions or memories. People with a history of trauma, a serious mental health condition, or who are under medical care should speak with their doctor or therapist first. A good teacher training prepares you to recognize these situations and refer students when needed.

Conclusion

Knowing where to find Yoga Nidra teacher training online is the first step. The harder part is choosing a course that turns knowledge into real teaching skill.

Start with your goal. If you want a flexible specialist skill, a well-run online course from a lineage institute or an established school can serve you well. Look for live contact, a practicum with feedback, and training in writing your own sessions.

If you want to go deeper, practice daily, and have your teaching observed in person, a residential program is the stronger choice. At Inteyoga, Yoga Nidra is taught within our Advanced TTC 300-Hour Integrated Restorative Yoga (Including Yoga Nidra, Chakra Sadhana, and Prana Vidya Intensive) in Colva, South Goa, alongside pranayama, meditation, Chakra Sadhana and Prana Vidya.
